We went to the doctor back in June, overweight, tired, but felling relatively good. For years my cholesterol levels have been out of balance and my triglycerides have been off the charts. I have been taking medication faithfully since the quadruple by-pass in November 2005 to reduce the cholesterol levels but nothing seemed to work. Then my doctor, who by the way should actually be a veterinarian as his ability to communicate with humans literally sucks, said, "Man you're screwed." as he looked at the newest set of labs. My LDL 180, HDL 12, Triglycerides 720. I weighed 218 pounds, the heaviest I have ever been in my life and overweight for a man that is 5'8" tall. The only advice, "Get more exercise." I would try and I would literally hurt so bad I could barely move for two days afterwards.
Then I ran into Ted. He is the PA in my doctor's office. He stopped half my medications telling me that they were probably causing lactic acid buildup in my muscles as I attempted to workout. Then he told me I needed to go on a low carbohydrate diet. He explained it to me, and chastised me for the actual 5 pounds of sugar I was consuming in my coffee each week, not counting the case of Pepsi's on top of that. He said I was going to go from being pre-diabetic to  taking insulin overnight if I didn't change these bad habits.
I left his office that morning and went to the grocery store and researched carbohydrates in food. I settled on a modified Atkins Diet that I started 3 days later along with Jan. Instead of weening myself off of sugars and the carbohydrates, I decided  instead to crash them . For 10 days I ate nothing but meat, eggs, and cheese, and I had nothing but water to drink. I became so sick after the first week I almost quit the diet all together. Being sick coupled with nothing that I liked to drink almost brought this new way of eating to an abrupt end. Eventually I settled on Propel flavored water, diet Mountain Dew and eventually coffee with just creamer.
In less than 2 weeks I had dropped 13 pounds. and I was beginning to have more energy. I know this because prior to the beginning of this new way of eating, I was taking a nap  every single day as I was always tired by 2:00 o'clock. All of a sudden I realized that I had stopped taking a daily nap. I continued to lose weight and as of today I have lost 16 pounds.
