Roscoe P.P. Coltrane and Jessie. Both were USERL rescue animals that we adopted in NC. Roscoe and his brother were locked in a box stall and left to die. When rescued he was walking on his knuckles as his hoofs had curled under as they grew. Roscoe died after the URERL forced us to have him castrated by one of their hack vets although, he was a sterile animal. He bled to death 4hrs after the botched surgery.
Prior to that, Roscoe was as much a friend to me as my dogs. He followed me everywhere, worked hard helping me clear brush on the farm and just enjoyed the 3yrs that he was a part of our family. When we got him, I was recovering from quadruple by-pass surgery and he was recovering from abuse. in actuality, we each gave the other a new lease on life. He will always hold a special place in my heart.

Jessie was actually an Award winning Jumper. He also had been left in a stall to die. As you may be able to tell from Jessie's picture he was very sway-backed, either from being ridden by someone weighing too much, at a very young age, or possibly an injury from the years as a jumper. He was a very proud and majestic horse with a lot of life and love to share. He was a companion horse only for Roscoe.

Jasmine Elizabeth (Blond Chow Mix)1998-2005. We found Jasmine sitting in the middle of an intersection in Sheffield, AL in 1998. She was this tiny ball of fur that was scared and new to this huge World around her. She had wandered into the middle of the road and sat down in traffic that kept whizzing by her. I ran the red light pulled into the Intersection to block the traffic. I got out and picked her up. She smelled like smoke and was filthy. Sadly she passed away from an autoimmune disease, but she was a major part of our family for 6yrs.
Benjamin (Bengay-Gonestriaght) Elizabeth (Jack Russell Mix) 2001-2017, This was Janit's baby. He followed in her footsteps until the day he died. His nickname Bengay came from the time he dug out from under a fence while in the yard and got picked up by the Doggie PoPo. I was working in a prison at the time and when I went to bail him out of jail, he was in a cage with a really big dog. He looked sheepish when I called his name, and I said, "You don't have to explain it to me little man. Faking it to make it in prison is just a fact of life." So I started calling him Bengay-GoneStraight which got shortened to Bengay. He was Janit's world for 16yrs. Even after losing his sight he would lay with his nose touching her foot so he would know when she moved. He could blindly follow her without making any missteps simply from sound and smell. He definitely was a brilliant little dog. I blame his Lifestyle choice on his mom. She named him Benjamin Elizabeth! He spent 16yrs in a house full of unspayed Female dogs and never once showed any sign of interest in any of them.
Daisey Mae 1995-2016: Daisey was a life saving miracle for me. She was one of the few that touched a heart string and will always be a special memory for me. Jasmine had passed away and I was at home recovering from quadruple by-pass. I needed something to give me the incentive to get up and walk, and Daisey was that the incentive. She was daddy's girl from day one. She got away one night in NC and was gone for more than 12 hrs. I was out of my mind as we were trying to find her. 9 weeks later she gave birth to 7 beautiful pups in a bow I built for her beside my bed. out of the 7 we kept two for ourselves. The first born Bertha Butt, and the runt Lucy Lou. Daisey died from Cancer in the middle of night sleeping peacefully by my bed. She was the fastest dog I have ever seen. On the farm she would go from 0 to Full speed in 2 seconds. Running across a 10 acre pasture to chase a herd of deer. She was just a young soul that enjoyed her life to the fullest.
Lucy Lou 2011-2018: Lucy was the runt of Daisey's litter and I could not find it in my heart to give her away. She was afraid of her own shadow and ran from everything. I told Janit that giving her to anyone would be wrong as they would probably mistreat her or put her in a pound. I started letting her sleep in the bed beside me and within a week her entire personality changed. She became the most outgoing, loving, protective dog we have ever had. She loved life, and she loved her daddy. I grew up a lot as a man having her as part of my life. When she became sick, I was forced to discover what the meaning of Compassion actually meant. I was forced to have to put her down after cancer had weakened her to the point that she could no longer walk, or squat to pee. I cried all night before the day I took her to the vet. I have never believed in putting an animal to sleep. After praying about it, I soon came to understand that I was forcing her to suffer physically, mentally, and emotionally just to keep me from having to experience an emotional loss. I realized I was being selfish. I carried her into the Vet's Office and stayed right in front of her eyes as she peacefully went to sleep. I spoke softly to her the whole time and let her know how much she was loved and how much she was going to be missed. I have never cried as hard for anyone's death as I did for Miss Lucy. She is still part of my soul. I not only lost Miss Lucy, but I also lost another part of Daisey that day.

Then we had Doc who thought he was a dog. (Solid Black)
The next three cats were given to me by Inmates on Death-row at Holman Prison to take home and raise. The cats were named by the Inmates using their Nicknames. Crash Can, the oldest, is the Biological Brother of BD who was born a litter after Crash Can.
So In order: Crash Can, his brother BD (BeeDers, Bus Driver, Beet Beet), and Whitey (The solid black kitten). All have passed away in the past few years but lived to be around 10 -12 yrs old.
